Legal profession join 40-mile Thames walk for charity

More than 400 members of the legal profession are set to take part in a 40-mile trek along the Thames to raise money for London’s legal advice charities.

The walk, sponsored by Jordans and BPP Law School, and supported by the Law Society, the Bar Council, the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX) and HM Courts & Tribunals Service, will start from Clifford Chance’s office on Saturday 18 February and finish at Hampton Court on Sunday.

Walk the Thames 2012 has so far raised over £11,000 for law centres and specialist legal advice agencies.

Teams from almost 20 law firms, including magic circle firms Allen & Overy and Clifford Chance, several chambers, legal advice clinics and law schools are participating in the annual event.

“More people than ever need free legal advice about housing, debt, benefits and employment. But funding for legal advice centres is shrinking,” added Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers. “Please come and join us, whether on foot or on bicycle.”
