The potential parliamentary candidates (PPCs) highlighted in The Lawyer (19 April) may be going back to their day jobs after all six failed to win seats.
Serena Tierney, consultant for Wragge & Co and Liberal Democrat PPC for West Sussex, lost to the Conservatives. Fellow Liberal Democrat for Holborn and St Pancras and barrister at One Essex Court Joanna Shaw was beaten by Labour.
Hamish Sandison, a partner Field Fisher Waterhouse and Labour PPC for Monmouth, and Bambous Charalambous, in-house lawyer for Hackney Council and Labour PPC for Enfield Southgate, both lost to the Conservatives.
Donald Cameron, advocate for Murray Stable and Conservative PPC for Ross, Skye & Lochaber, was beaten by the Liberal Democrats, while Jeremy Brier, a barrister at Essex Court Chambers and Conservative PPC for Luton North, lost to Labour.

The list also omits Jamie Hanley (a partner in Morrish solicitors of Leeds), who failed to hold the Pudsey Constituency for Labour. With all of these guys failing to win the backing of the electorate, the public must think that to be both a lawyer and a politician is the ultimate damnation!

On the up side for the lawyers, Chuka Umunna of Rochman Landau held on to Streatham for Labour. Joanne Cash of One Brick Court had less luck for the Tories in Westminster North.
