A new website designed to inform potential higher apprentices about a new vocational route into a career in law has been launched.
Developed by Pearson in Practice with The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx), Damar Training and Skills for Justice the Higher Apprenticeship in Legal Services is designed to provide an apprenticeship pathway to becoming a paralegal.
The first higher apprentices will start when the qualification goes live in March 2013 and will be open to both new entrants to the sector and some existing law firm staff.
It is expected that because of changes in the way law firms conduct business, the number of paralegals is expected to grow by at least 18% by 2017.
In a statement Jonathan Bourne, Managing Director of Damar Training, said: “The recent news that the number of British undergraduates starting at English universities this year is down by 51,000 underlines the need for challenging vocational alternatives. With over 70 law firms now engaged in this project we are confident that the legal apprenticeship pathway will provide many ambitious young people with an opportunity to build a career in law without any student debt.”
