The government of Bahrain has chosen Scottish firm Ledingham Chalmers to advise it on oil and gas-related matters.
Ledingham Chalmers consultant Paul McGoldrick said: "Ledingham Chalmers is the only UK firm that has the privileged role of specifically advising the Bahrain ministry of oil and gas." The firm is advising the Bahrain government out of its Aberdeen office, even though it has a practice closer to Bahrain in Baku, Azerbaijan. McGoldrick, who joined the firm from an in-house position at Arco, now part of BP Amoco, is leading the three-lawyer Aberdeen-based team. According to McGoldrick, Ledingham Chalmers beat several international law firms, including Canadian firm Bennett Jones, to the work. The firms were pitching for a place advising the Bahrain ministry of oil and gas on a production-sharing agreement. The firm has since been retained to advise the ministry on a further project.
