LeBoeuf Lamb Greene & MacRae has beefed up its Russian presence with the lateral hire of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton associate Dan Coppel.
Coppel, who was based in Cleary Gottlieb’s London office, has joined LeBouef Lamb’s Moscow practice as partner, bringing the number of partners there to seven.
Brian Zimbler, managing partner of LeBoeuf Lamb’s Moscow office, said: “We are desperate to expand our corporate practice in Russia because clients are demanding more focus and there is a huge deal flow. We were straining to give the best service to our clients. It is not enough to be working on deals out of New York and London, you need to be in Moscow.”
As an M&A lawyer, much of Coppel’s experience is cross border in nature and he has experience of foreign direct investment and private equity work in Russia and other emerging markets.
He has also worked on a range of joint ventures and restructurings with clients including Russian and international companies, investment banks and other financial institutions.
He added that, even with the addition of Coppel, the Moscow practice needs further expansion with the likelihood of further lateral hires as well as associate promotions on the cards.
