Laytons ditches Hampton Court in favour of new Guildford office

Property specialist Laytons is moving from its premises in Hampton Court to larger offices in Guildford.

The move, which will be effective from today (19 March), has been prompted by client needs. It will also allow Laytons to develop its client base and expand its practice.

Managing partner Chris Taylor denies that the move is motivated by cost. “The new property is six times more expensive than our offices in Hampton Court. We are moving because we see Guildford as the commercial centre of Surrey and we need to remain in Surrey to retain our professional staff,” he says. Taylor also sees the extra space as an opportunity to expand the practice and explore other areas.

Laytons has 10 partners in the Surrey office – three in litigation, two in company commercial and five in property.

Taylor says: “We’ve trebled our turnover in the past four years and we need more space. We have 24 existing fee-earners and we will be recruiting at least a further six. We will grow organically to expand our existing expertise and we will also develop the intellectual property and IT side of our practice.”

Taylor says that none of the firm’s clients are local to Hampton Court and so the move does not pose a threat to existing relationships.
