LAWYERS are behind a new campaign to draw business into Nottingham.
The city's professionals are launching Nottingham First next week to establish the area as a major centre for business services.
Eight of the city's law firms have joined the new group, which also includes accountants, surveyors, bankers and insurers.
The independent chair of Nottingham First is Alan Wheelhouse, partner with Freeth Cartwright Hunt Dickins, while Victor Semmens, of Eversheds, and John Britten, of Actons, are directors.
Nottingham's lawyers were instrumental in setting up the group which will promote the city and market its services direct to business people. There were four lawyers on the original steering committee.
In the first year, the group will be concentrating on the East Midlands. In year two it aims to draw in work from the West Midlands and South Yorkshire.
"We believed that if we didn't do something like this, the likes of Leeds and Birmingham would be stealing a march on us," says Wheelhouse.
"We want people to know that in Nottingham we can do the job as well as anyone."
Other firms involved in the group are Ashton Bond Gigg, Browne Jacobson, Eking Manning, Nelsons and Shoosmith & Harrison.
