Lawrence Graham is taking on a second partner for its employment practice from City niche practice Orchard.
Simon Malcolm joins head of the practice Yvonne Gallagher. He will focus on contentious work despite her practice being largely non-contentious. In April, the firm lost high-profile employment partner Georgina Keane when she left to set up her own firm. She had joined just a year earlier from Richards Butler. Malcolm has been a partner at Orchard since 1995, and was one of the founding partners. The firm suffered a blow at the end of last year when the entire corporate finance practice left for the London office of Altheimer & Gray (The Lawyer, 16 October 2000). There are now only six partners left at the firm. Malcolm has worked with clients that include Unison, Riggs Bank and TMP Worldwide. His new team at Lawrence Graham is working with companies such as Coffee Republic and Scottish & Newcastle.
