Lawrence Graham has completed a u70m joint venture transaction on behalf of Scottish & Newcastle with Hugh Baird & Sons. Partner Paul Walker led a team of two partners Andrew Wade, Caroline May and two assistants. Scottish & Newcastle has previously instructed the firm on a number of transactions. Walker says: " This deal sets up a major force in the UK malting industry, bringing together two of the best known players in the market." Anthony Newhouse, corporate and commercial partner at Slaughter and May, led the team of two lawyers, David Johnson and Joanne Wheeler, who represented Hugh Baird & Sons, malt manufacturers. Newhouse says: "We have succeeded in finding a structure that fits well with the global policy of the joint venture." Hugh Baird & Sons is part of a joint venture between ConAgra Inc based in Nevada, and Tiger Oats based in South Africa. The newly incorporated company, Bairds Malt, will be based in Essex.
