This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
Satan or Lucifer, Beelzebub or Apollyon (which as any fule kno, is the Greek name for the angel of the bottomless pit, meaning destroyer).
All and any should be enough to strike terror in the heart of any opponent. Whatever you call him, he’s probably a bit handy in a scrap.
And the Law Society is about to find out. Okay, strictly speaking Solicitors from Hell website owner Rick Kordowski isn’t the Antichrist, but he’s certainly caused a devil of a stink on Chancery Lane.
Kordowski, whose site gives consumers the chance to name and shame lawyers they allege have been rubbish, has launched a £1m defamation claim against Law Society chief executive Des Hudson for allegedly calling him a crim (see story).
The Society, in return, has today confirmed that it is to sue Kordowski in a group action on behalf of 150,000 solicitors in England and Wales for defamation, harassment and breach of the Data Protection Act. Not only that, it’s wheeled in Mr Gag himself, Hugh Tomlinson QC of Matrix Chambers, to pursue the case.
Serious stuff. Let’s hope it doesn’t add too much to the cost of the practising certficate next year, eh?
