Law Society keeps Lord Falconer at bay with new complaints director

The Law Society is attempting to stay the threat of losing it’s self-regulatory powers with the creation of a complaints handling directorate.

Ian Wright, formerly general manager of the customer division of accounting software group Sage UK, will lead the new department which will focus solely on the handling of complaints against solicitors.

In December, Lord Falconer told the Law Society Council that the society’s chances of retaining self-regulation was still precarious, despite it having committed to spend £21m in three years on improving the service.
