The Law Society is attempting to help develop human rights in Nigeria with this week’s launch of the British Nigerian Law Forum.
Aimed at encouraging relationships between the British and Nigerian legal professions, the forum will also acts as a support network for Nigerian lawyers working in London.
The forum comes at a time when Nigeria is reforming its justice system after the years of military rule which ended in 1999. Law Society president Edward Nally said that lawyers from both Britain and Nigeria have a role to play in developing justice and human rights in Nigeria.
Solicitors and barristers with an interest in African affairs are encouraged to join the forum, which has also elected its first governing body.
