Law Society falls short on service level

The Law Society is failing to support the needs of a significant number of the solicitors that it represents, according to new research.

More than a third (40 per cent) of law firms claim the society meets few or none of their needs. A quarter (26 per cent) of individual solicitors in private practice feel the same way, while dissatisfaction with the organisation among in-house counsel rises to 33 per cent.

The information is the result of a survey carried out for the Law Society by market research company GfK NOP to help shape the future representative role of the society. The results were presented to the Law Society Council last week (2 March).

Respondents said supporting solicitors in the course of their practice and representing solicitors’ interests nationally should be the Law Society’s main focus in the future.
