Law Soc will set up Yorkshire regional office in Wakefield

THE LAW Society will open its new regional office in Wakefield after a meeting of the Yorkshire Union of Law Societies voted “overwhelmingly” in favour of the city.

The site was chosen over Harrogate, York and Sheffield, which also put in bids after it was announced the area would get its own regional secretary.

Society deputy head of communications Jonathan Gold-smith expects the office to open on 1 September and adds that the move is part of the society's on-going programme of regionalisation. Law Society premises already exist in Wales and the South-West, and the North-East is the next region to be considered.

Goldsmith says regional offices promote Law Society initiatives such as National Law Week, Will Week and Accident Line, provide training courses and conferences, and identify legal issues in the region.

“We hope and believe that these offices bring considerable benefits for members. Different regions will get different benefits. We look to take up issues which are dear to the area,” says Goldsmith.
