The Law Society is running a careers event to help aspiring solicitors prepare for the challenges of a career in law.
“Preparing Students for Gaining Entry to the Solicitors’ Profession” will provide undergraduate students with an overview of the Legal Practice Course and advice from industry experts, graduate recruiters and partners.
The careers conference follows the launch, in July 2009, by the Law Society of campaign aimed at warning students to think twice about trying to break into the legal profession (read story).
Law Society President Linda Lee said: “Today’s law students are entering a market that’s competitive and challenging but also rewarding. We are continuing to work with students and graduates to ensure they are well prepared.”
As part of the conference the Law Society will officially launch its new toolkit providing tips on preparing CVs, covering letters, application forms and interview techniques.
Delegates will also be given an insight into alternative career options offered by different types of employers within the legal profession.
Speakers at the event include Ali Zaidi, a partner at Edwin Coe, Claire Lay, graduate recruitment executive at DLA Piper and Husnara Begum, editor of Lawyer 2B.
The event is being hosted at the Law Society on Thursday 21 October.
