Law Soc courses make grade

TUTORS at the Law Society's Local Government Group claim they are beating private sector rivals at providing high-quality courses.

A survey among the group's members reveals that 88 per cent approved of its courses compared to 66 per cent which approved of private courses.

Peter Godber, director of training, said that its courses were more carefully tailored

to the work of council lawyers.

"It appears that local authority lawyers greatly value the opportunity to attend training courses that are specifically set up to meet their needs," he said.

"The survey shows that they much less enjoy attending courses where they are in a

minority alongside large numbers of delegates from private practice who are attending with different needs."

The group runs more than 100 courses yearly, featuring some of the leading names in public sector legal circles.

The new prospectus includes courses on law and childcare, food hygiene and facilities for travellers.
