The Law Society has proposed opening new routes to qualification.
The alternative system would enable work-based learning centred on a new portfolio on which all trainees would be assessed. Trainees who wished to follow the new route would be able to register themselves with the Law Society's regulation board, then plan their own portfolio and training with a board assessor. The move is designed to address a shortage of training contracts.
