The compensation hopes of thousands of South Africans suffering from asbestos-related diseases now rest with the House of Lords. The Law Lords have agreed to hear a final challenge to earlier court orders that the compensation claims should be heard in South Africa rather than the UK High Court. Lawyers representing the South Africans argued that if the claims against Cape plc are heard in South Africa they are almost certainly doomed to failure. They believe the only hope of success is for the claims to be heard in the UK.
