Hogan Lovells' Gorrell and Bennett feature in list of the 100 Most Influential US Lawyers
Hogan Lovells co-chief executive officer Warren Gorrell and partner Robert Bennett have been named in the National Law Journal’s list of the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America.
Gorrell and Bennett were selected by the publication as part of an elite group of lawyers that have helped shape the legal world through their work in the courtroom or at the negotiating table, taking on major legal battles and orchestrating landmark corporate deals.
The two lawyers also made the list the last time it was published in 2006.
Gorrell was recognised for being one of the primary architects of Hogan & Hartson’s 2010 combination with Lovells. He was also commended for the mergers and acquisitions work with client Archstone-Smith in its $22.2bn acquisition by Tishman Speyer Properties and Lehman Brothers, as well as his leadership last year with the deal team representing Equity Residential in its $16bn acquisition with AvalonBay of Archstone from Lehman Brothers.
Bennett, a member of the investigations, white collar and fraud practice group, was recognised for his nearly 40-year career representing Washington’s elite in high-profile white-collar criminal, civil, Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement, and congressional matters.
Recent high-profile cases include securing a dismissal for French bank BNP Paribas in a lawsuit brought by Iraq accusing dozens of companies of conspiring with Saddam Hussein’s regime to frustrate the United Nations’ oil for food programme.
He was also lauded for the continuing representation of Washington DC mayor Vincent Gray in a Department of Justice investigation concerning improprieties surrounding his 2010 election campaign, as well as the representation of international sports entities World Anti-Doping Agency and Federation Internationale De Natation.
