UK employment law update: Autumn 2012
Employment law continues to evolve rapidly and, since our Spring 2012 Employment Law Update, there have been further significant developments, in particular as regards employer pension duties and imminent changes in relation to the employment of seafarers.
Employers need to keep abreast of all changes in order to ensure that workplace practices and procedures remain current and in line with legislation and to minimise the risk of employment related disputes.
In this bulletin we set out short summaries of some of the recent changes which will be of interest to employers.
New laws came into force on 30 June 2012 and are being phased in over a period of five and a half years from 1 October 2012. Employers will be required to auto-enrol their eligible workers (referred to as “jobholders”) in a pension scheme which satisfies specific criteria, unless the jobholders are already active members of the employer’s qualifying pension scheme…
