The Competition Commission for the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) region announced on 14 January that it is now operational and has started receiving merger notifications. The regulations governing COMESA’s operations, which were adopted in December 2004, are also effective with effect from 14 January, with various aspects of the regulations having been amended, including provisions relating to merger filing fees, exemption application fees and application for authorisation fees.
