Latham poaches Lovells partner to boost Madrid

Latham & Watkins has doubled its Spanish partnership, raiding Lovells for administrative law partner Antonio Morales.

Morales becomes Latham’s second partner and 11th lawyer in Spain, after the firm launched at the start of 2007 with the hire of Jose Luis Blanco from Cuatrecasas.

Latham & Watkins has so far concentrated on corporate work and M&A in Spain but Morales will give the firm a public law capability. His practice focuses on energy and he was the secretary general of the Nuclear Security Council for three years until 2005.

Lovells said in a statement: “Our Madrid office is performing well and will continue to do so with its strong team of eight partners and more than 35 lawyers. We have a great administrative contentious law team and do not regard Antonio’s departure as significant.”
