Nabarro Nathanson is continuing to lose its vice-like grip on key client Land Securities as the property giant has been instructing firms outside its panel.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Herbert Smith and Slaughter and May are all acting for Land Securities, despite the fact that none are on the company’s current panel.
Those firms that do hold a place on the panel are Cripps Harries Hall, Dundas & Wilson, Kuit Steinart Levy, Lovells, Nabarros and Simmons & Simmons.
Although Slaughters is not officially on the panel, the firm has worked on an ad hoc basis for the company for a number of years.
Although Freshfields has not advised Land Securities before, it is a key adviser to Land Securities Trillium, having previously acted on both the BT and BBC outsourcing deals.
Herbert Smith is not on either panel, but has been doing some construction work for the company since partner Nick Downing joined from Nabarros in 1997.
One source close to the company commented: “Changes to the company and the board following the merger with Trillium has meant that more firms are getting a piece of the action.”
Another source said: “[The company] is trying out a few of the larger firms to do the big, full-service work.”
Freshfields, Herbert Smith and Slaughters all declined to comment.
Land Securities was unavailable for comment.
