Labruna’s year-two revenue jumps 80 per cent to hit €18m

Italian independent firm Labruna Mazziotti Segni has recorded a revenue rise of 80 per cent to hit e18m (£14.17m) in its second year of business.

The firm launched at the start of 2006 after four partners broke away from Gianni Origoni Grippo & Partners to set up their own corporate boutique. Labruna Mazziotti Segni managed a e10m (£7.8m) haul in its first year of business and almost doubled that figure in 2007.

One of the founding partners Fabio Labruna said: “I think corporate has been continuing to grow strongly but also litigation and insolvency have both been growth areas for the firm. “I’m not certain we could maintain that level of growth, which is indicative of a new enterprise, in the future. We will continue to invest in the core area of the firm, being corporate, and also we’ll see further investments in terms of litigation and insolvency. It’s not an easy time but the kinds of clients we work with are active in this kind of market.”

The firm has prospered in times of high corporate activity in Italy, and has advised on a series of major deals. In 2007 the firm advised Vodafone on the purchase of Italian phone company Teledue and Pirelli on the e4.1bn (£3.23bn) sale of a stake in Telecom Italia.

The firm also landed its first instruction from private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts on the sale of industrial company Selenia.

Labruna Mazziotti Segni now has 14 partners and more than 45 lawyers after starting with just four founding partners and 20 associates.
