The Government is certainly keeping an interest in all things legal. Lord Irvine's Parliamentary Secretary Geoff Hoon MP's idea of setting up a parliamentary group of lawyers or those with an interest in the law is excellent. Apart from keeping backbenchers busy, it should keep legal matters high up on the Government's agenda.
Indeed, a recent lunch hosted by the Law Society and Peter Temple Morris MP in the House of Commons saw almost a full show of parliamentarians, which further demonstrated this government's commitment to legal issues. The next few years should see some stimulating debate on legal affairs if current enthusiasm is anything to go by.
