KPMG has hired Boston Consulting Group (BCG) general counsel Jeremy Barton to replace retired legal head Vanessa Sharp as the accountancy firm’s new GC.

London-based Barton has been BCG’s GC since 2008, having joined the business consulting company from Ernst & Young where he was global GC. Since then, he has been responsible for all legal and compliance matters for BCG, leading lawyers in both the US and Europe.

KPMG’s former GC Vanessa Sharp quit her role in May, having headed the accountancy giant’s legal team since 1996.

The accountancy firm currently has a legal team of near to 60 lawyers, including assistant GC’s Kate Farmer, Laura Mavely, Ian Dunn, Misha Patel and Gordon Ackers. Its legal business recently revealed its revenues were set to exceed the £10m target set last year when it was first granted an ABS licence.

A spokesperson for BCG said the company is now in the process of recruiting Barton’s successor.
