US trial lawyers Kobre & Kim launched its Hong Kong office last week, with the new practice being led by Morgan Stanley’s former executive director in Hong Kong William McGovern.
McGovern will be supported by the firm’s co-founder and former federal prosecutor at the US DoJ Steven Kobre. The firm also has offices in New York, London, Washington DC and Miami.
London-based partner James Corbett QC, who joined the firm in April (19 April 2010) , said the move was triggered by the growing number of clients in the region, including Hong Kong-based US residents being investigated by regulatory authorities.
The firm has also represented Asian companies in US-based antitrust class and government enforcement actions, including companies based in Japan, Singapore, Korea and Hong Kong being investigated by US authorities.
McGovern, who will be joined in Hong Kong by associate Andrew Meehan, said: “We see growing demand in Hong Kong and Asia-Pacific for a practice which focuses on litigation, especially among financial clients and corporates.”
