US litigation boutique Kobre & Kim has thrown down the gauntlet to rivals, including Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, after securing a second silk for its London office.
Jalil Asif QC, who is well-known for his professional negligence work, will join the firm’s City base tomorrow (6 September) from 4 New Square, where he has spent the past 22 years. Asif joins James Corbett QC, who arrived from Serle Court last year to lead the firm’s English litigation and advocacy practice.
Corbett admitted that the hire of Asif will “up the ante” against direct competition, including Quinn Emanuel, which has one London silk in the shape of co-managing partner Sue Prevezer QC.
“There’s only one other firm with a silk and that’s Quinn Emanuel, but they haven’t taken any barristers lately,” he said.
