US firm K&L Gates has opened its 40th office with the launch of an office in South Carolina following a seven-partner exodus from Parker Poe Adam & Bernstein.
Joining the firm in its 24th US office are partners Matthew Norton, J. Walker Coleman, Joshua Dixon, Theodore Manuel, Bryan Walpole, Jason Walton and James Bruce who practise in a range of areas.
It is expected that Norton, who advises clients on projects and transactions throughout the southeastern United States, Caribbean, and Latin America, will head up the firm’s international resort and hospitality practice.
K&L Gates chairman and global managing partner Peter Kalis said the latest outpost centered around Charleston’s expanding port and the region’s business-friendly climate.
“K&L Gates is the first law firm to establish an office in South Carolina that also has significant offices in world financial centers such as New York, London, Frankfort, Tokyo, Dubai, Hong Kong, and São Paulo. As a result, K&L Gates is the ideal platform for Charleston and South Carolina’s growing and dynamic economy and our international resort and hospitality practice,” said Kalis.
Last month, the firm launched an office in Sáo Paulo, its first foray in South America (7 November 2011).
