Kirkland & Ellis has launched an Asia funds practice, moving UK and US partners moving to Hong Kong.
London partner Justin Dolling and New York partner Albert Cho will relocate to the US firm’s Hong Kong office to head up the new practice group in the region.
Private funds partner at Kirkland, Bruce Ettelson, said: “The firm wanted to send UK and US qualified partners to launch the practice to give us the broad base of expertise on the ground. There client base reflects the capabilities that we need to start the practice in the region.”
Dolling, who joined the firm from SJ Berwin in 2007, focuses his practice on establishment of private equity funds with a range of Japanese, Asia and Australian clients.
Cho has a European and US private equity client base including CVC Capital Partners.
Dolling said: “We will be working very closely with the funds practice in the UK and in the US. It’s not a stand alone group. Our real aim is build up our presence in servicing local sponsors and developing private equity clients.”
