Kirkland boosts London insolvency with new partner

Chicago bankruptcy specialist Kirkland & Ellis has promoted senior associate Partha Kar to partner within the London restructuring group.

Kar’s promotion takes the number of restructuring partners in London to four and the total number of partners in the UK to 16.

Kar’s promotion underlines the firm’s continuing investment in a global restructuring practice. In July this year the New York office hired the former chief legal adviser on insolvency and credit rights issues, Gordon Johnson.

Johnson arrived six months after Kirkland’s high-profile hiring of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher bankruptcy head Rick Cieri, who joined in February 2005.

This year Kirkland also hired Shearman & Sterling litigation and arbitration partner Chris Colbridge to boost its London contentious capability.
