City firm Kingsford Stacey Blackwell's county roots helped it win one of its biggest ever property contracts - a disposal for Hertfordshire County Council of properties worth £27m.
The firm won the work against competition from larger firms, one of which was national. The council refuses to name the competition.
Kingsford Stacey, which has 24 partners, has an office in Hertfordshire and the City.
Andrew Laycock, county secretary at Hertfordshire, says: "It is a local firm but has a London office. The firm has done work for us before which we have been happy with. Price was, of course, an ever important consideration, and the other firms were bigger. It's a story where the little local guy wins."
Property partner John Moore says two partners and an assistant will work on the project, which could take 12 to 15 months. "This is our first big job for Hertfordshire County Council," he says.
The firm and the council are in talks about a closer partnership, possibly involving training or staff secondments.
