SJ Berwin senior partner Stephen Kon, managing partner Rob Day and KWM global managing partner Stuart Fuller answer a few personal questions.

What was your first ever job?

SJ Berwin senior partner Stephen Kon: Tour guide in Europe.

King & Wood Mallesons global managing partner Stuart Fuller: Electoral registration officer in the Australian government.

SJ Berwin managing partner Rob Day: Saturday retail assistant in a British home store.

Where is the best place to go if you want to find out what’s really going on in the office?

Kon: Stanley’s [in-house cafe].

Fuller: The tea room.

Day: Any trainee or The Banker where the trainees hang out.

What time do you usually leave the office?

Kon: Any time between 8pm to 4am.

Fuller: I try to leave the office by 9pm but I also work from home.

Day: Usually late, similar to Stephen – any time between 8pm to 4am.

What do you do at weekends?

Kon: A combination of theatre, football and horse racing.

Fuller: Sleep.

Day: There is a raft of things I like to do at weekends, but my favourite is sailing.

What’s your favourite cocktail?

Kon: Gin and tonic.

Fuller: Manhattan.

Day: Caipirinha.

If you weren’t a lawyer what would you have been?

Kon: Jazz singer.

Fuller: A pilot.

Day: Sailing.

What is your favourite film?

Kon: Casablanca.

Fuller: The Hunt for Red October.

Day: I like so many movies but if I have to choose one I will plump for Local Hero.

What’s the toughest thing about your job?

Kon, Fuller and Day unanimously: Being the person who has to say no.

What car do you drive?

Kon: A Toyota Hybrid car.

Fuller: I live in Hong Kong, and I use MTR [the local tube], so I don’t need a car.

Day: A Range Rover, but I am more interested in motor bikes and I have a Yamaha R1.

What is the worst partner conference location you’ve attended and why?

Kon and Day: The 2002/03 conference in Langham Hilton Hotel, because, Day said, “it was at the depth of the 2002/03 recession, pouring with rain, the normally weekend away being packed into a single day in London and everyone was feeling thoroughly miserable”

Fuller: Any conference that is held in Canberra, just because it is Canberra.

Who would you least like to be stuck in a lift with and why?

Kon: A journalist from The Lawyer.

Fuller: Mother-in-law.

Day: Any politician.

Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself (in any order)…

Kon: I support Watford Football Club, I support England in cricket, and I expect Australia to win the next test.

Fuller: I sleep with my blackberry, I am good at karaoke, my nickname at school was Benny Hill.

Day: I was once asked to rescue a whale in the river Thames, I used to work in a fork lift truck company, and I raced in the Sydney-Hobart yacht race.
