King & Wood expands

King & Wood has merged with Hong Kong firm Arculli Fong & Ng, becoming the first People’s Republic of China practice to launch in the former UK dependent territory.

King & Wood has had an association with Arculli since 2006.

International firms hoping to practise in Hong Kong are required to work in alliance with a local firm for three years before merging to set up a presence on the ground.

A Hong Kong-based partner said: “This is a good move for King & Wood. It’s a very ambitious firm that has global aspirations.

It’s been very successful at gradually expanding globally.”

In 2007 TheLawyer.com reported (8 November 2007) on King & Wood forming an alliance with Australian firm Gilbert & Tobin.

The firm has also established US offices in New York and Silicon Valley.
