King & Spalding bolsters NY energy practice with Milbank hire

King & Spalding has hired an energy partner from Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy in New York.

Crayton Bell, an M&A and private equity lawyer specialising in the energy sector in Milbank’s global corporate group, joins King & Spalding’s corporate practice.

The hire comes two months after King & Spalding hired a team of five energy transaction lawyers including two partners in London.

“The energy industry is an area of key strategic focus for the firm, and we’re committed to continually enhancing our transactional, litigation and regulatory strengths in the energy field to provide our clients with the deep global insight and legal skill they demand,” said Neil Levy, co-chair of King & Spalding’s global energy group.

Bell said: “I’m excited to join King & Spalding and its team of talented energy and corporate lawyers. The firm’s culture of teamwork and collegiality are especially appealing to me, and I look forward to helping the firm perform high-level work for energy companies and the financial institutions that invest in them.”

Earlier this month King & Spalding announced its plans to open an office in Singapore, its first in Asia, to focus on energy transactions and international arbitration (10 August 2010).

  • This and other recent hires probably puts K&S second to V&E as the leading non-NY energy firms.
