US firm Kilpatrick Stockton yesterday confirmed it is to merge with IP boutique Townsend & Townsend & Crew.
Bill Dorris, Kilpatrick Stockton
The new firm, which will be called Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton when it goes live on 1 January 2011, will have around 650 lawyers in 17 offices across the US, Asia and Europe.
Bill Dorris, the current chair of Kilpatrick Stockton, will take on the same role at Kilpatrick Townsend. Diane Prucino, currently co-managing partner of Kilpatrick Stockton and Maureen Sheehy, chair of Townsend since April this year, will serve as co-managing partners of the new firm.
“The merger combines the experience of some of the nation’s pre-eminent attorneys representing a who’s who of corporate clients across an extensive range of industries,” said Dorris.
The deal with San Francisco-headquartered Townsend will add significant depth to Kilpatrick across a range of IP services including patent, copyright and trademark litigation, prosecution and licensing. It will also add capabilities in antitrust and commercial litigation.
Kilpatrick, an Atlanta-headquartered firm with around 465 lawyers, closed its London office last year after it was hit by a series of departures.
