Kilburn firm to give free legal advice

Kilburn solicitor Daniel and Harris is launching a new "community legal service" offering free advice to those who may not qualify for legal aid.

The four-partner firm has sent out letters to 70 referral agencies and advice centres advertising the service, which will initially consist of a three-hour surgery on the first Tuesday evening of each month.

Partner Tim Daniel believes local people are finding it increasingly difficult to get advice from a solicitor. "In the past people who could not afford lawyers could get help under legal aid, but now cuts mean far fewer people qualify."

The service is scheduled to start on 1 October.
