Keystone Law consultant Stuart Hill and Devereux Chambers’ Colin Wynter QC have founded a new firm to handle claims for insurance policyholders.

Former Hogan Lovells partner Hill joined Keystone as a consultant just this year, and has been busy representing the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) chairman Hassan Bouhadi in the high-profile cases between the LIA, Goldman Sachs and Société Générale.

He will run the firm, Wynterhill, alongside Devereux Chambers barrister Wynter, who was awarded silk in 2006 and represented five of the claimants in the 2012 Supreme Court battle that affected thousands of asbestos victims

The new City firm will initially be run by the pair only, with consultant lawyers instead being brought in to build the right sized team for a job.

The rationale behind acting for insurance policyholders, according to Hill and Wynter, is to avoid conflicts of interests that can sometimes prevent larger firms from acting for clients on insurance matters.

“Until now, policyholders seeking insurance advice had two choices: work with an experienced firm that also took instructions from the other side, or turn to conflict-free firms who lacked specific insurance expertise. We offer the best of both worlds,” said Wynter.

The formation of the new firm comes as the Insurance Act is due to come into force in August 2016.
