Key change at BPI as GC quits

With all the pirate CDs that music industry groups the BPI and IFPI have nabbed between them, there's no shortage of possible theme tunes for the game of musical chairs going on in their office.

BPI general counsel Roz Groome has announced she is leaving after racking up 10 court wins and 100 settlements in just two years in the hotseat. See story. And it is a very hot seat.

She would have given her notice into BPI chief executive Geoff Taylor. Taylor was installed as Groome's boss and general counsel five years ago. He had joined from the UK's other big music industry lobbyist, IFPI.

When he quit again to return to IFPI, Groome assumed the role of general counsel at the BPI. Yes, it is a confusing tale. And it gets worse.

Taylor then returned to the BPI in March as chief executive.

So, despite twice quitting the BPI, Taylor keeps coming back as Groome's boss.

Perhaps it's no surprise she's now left for a plum role at NBC.
