Juridica invests £50m into UK-based litigation

Litigation funder Juridica Capital Management is to plough up to £50m into UK-based litigation.

The funder, which was launched in December 2007 and has more than $200m (£123.8m) in assets under management, has traditionally focused on commercial disputes based in the US.

The company said it would now turn its attention to the UK in response to increased demand for the service from top 20 law firms and corporate general counsel.

Juridica chief executive Richard Fields said: “This year we plan to spend more time in the UK and have already had discussions with several market participants about how to maximise the UK opportunities for the fund, especially in larger commercial cases.”

The move comes a week after Lord Justice Jackson proposed that the ban on a contingency fee model in the UK be lifted.
