Jones Day exits continue as Bingham hires partner

Another big name departure from Jones Day's London office means that the firm has haemorrhaged 11 partners in the last year.

Corporate finance specialist John Clark will be joining Bingham McCutchen in September as a partner in what will be the firm's second lateral hire in the space of a week following the capture of Peter Bibby from DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary. Clark's clients include hedge funds and investment funds.

Binghams UK head James Roome told The Lawyer: "John's a leading company lawyer whose financial institution client base will fit in well with Binghams' practice in London."

The exodus from Jones Day has hit the finance group particularly hard. In addition to Clark, UK finance head Thomas Budd left for Gibson Dunn & Crutcher and finance partners Martin Bartlam and Hazel Miller joined Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.

A three-partner tax team comprising Keith Featherstone, Robert Gaut and Martin Rowley, moved to Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson. Other departures include Simon Chalkley and Charters Macdonald-Brown, who left last August to set up their own IP practice, and UK pensions head Martin Scott. And just last week The Lawyer revealed that head of the private client group Jennet Davis was joining Withers.

Jones Day did not return calls for comment.
