Manchester firm JMW Solicitors has launched a money laundering advisory business with a partner from DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary as it embarks on a major expansion plan.
Commercial litigation partner Tony Winterburn joined JMW this month after 18 years at DLA Piper. His appointment comes shortly after the launch in late 2005 of JMW's money laundering business, ML Solutions 4U, as well as a new fraud department.
Managing partner Bill Jones told The Lawyer: "We're trying to do things differently and bring a different level of service to clients."
ML Solutions 4U is designed to advise other law firms on compliance with new money laundering regulations, offering tailor-made packages as well as training seminars.
Meanwhile, JMW is relocating to bespoke offices in Manchester's new Spinningfields development, with its space set to double in size during the next two years. The firm currently turns over £7.5m and has 21 partners.
Jones said he was optimistic for the future, adding: "It's a very nice position to be in."
