West End commercial firm Jeffrey Green Russell has lost a seventh partner in six months prompting speculation that partners are unhappy with its management style.
A source close to the 23-partner firm says the flood of departures in the last six months is the result of unhappiness with management.
"People are not happy with the way the firm is being run and the way it's operating in quite a number of areas. It's a problem of organisation - or rather the lack of it," he says.
Corporate and commercial IT partner Jon Fell left in September to join Masons' IT department (The Lawyer, 6 September) and his colleague David Judah is the latest to leave. He joins City firm Rakisons in the new year.
Property partners Jeremy Fieldhouse and Raymond Alexander have both left to join Scottish firm McClure Naismith and London firm Berger Oliver & Co respectively, while litigator Tony Walker has moved to niche London construction firm Winward Fearon.
Property partner Nick Cheshire has joined Howard Kennedy and licensing partner Steven Gifford has left the firm recently, although he has not yet joined another practice.
Managing and senior partner at Jeffrey Green Russell Clive Whitfield-Jones dismisses rumours that the firm is in crisis as complete nonsense.
He says: "I don't wish to make any comment on the partners who have left other than to wish them well.
"The departures have not resulted in any significant client loss."
He says the firm has recently promoted three associates to partnership and a number of salaried partners are applying for full equity.
"What has happened is that some partners have left and other partners have moved up and we, as a business, are doing fine," he says.
