Japanese firm Atsumi & Partners has added to its international practice by hiring Andreas Kaiser, its first German lawyer.
Kaiser brings a fourth prong to the firm's legal functions, which already include UK, US and Japanese legal capabilities.
Atsumi managing partner Hiroo Atsumi said Kaiser's appointment will enhance the firm's corporate and finance practice and international transaction capabilities to include German business.
The firm scooped Clifford Chance Tokyo office partner Daniel Hounslow last November and has added two US associates to its team over the past year.
The firm is actively looking to expand its international partnership through the hiring on non-Japanese attorneys with a preference for lawyers licensed in a common law jurisdiction with native English language drafting skills.
Kaiser, who joins the firm as a counsel, was previously a private practitioner in Tokyo, where he advised banks, embassies and the Japanese notaries association. He was also a lecturer of German law at Tokyo's English Law School, Chuo University.
The firm has been recruiting foreign lawyers since setting up its joint foreign law practice by admitting US lawyer Bonnie Dixon as a partner in 2005.
