The offshore legal community has been experiencing a period of considerable upheaval as it attempts to adapt to a rapidly shifting marketplace. Ian James has put Mourant du Feu & Jeune firmly at the forefront of this period of change by bidding to make the Channel Islands firm a leader of the new breed of offshore practice. In July 2004 Mourants launched a Cayman Islands office, setting the trend for firms to develop centres in multiple offshore jurisdictions.
Then, in October, it became one of the first law firms to incorporate as a limited company. As a result, all senior executives and employees, as well as equity partners, are now able to buy shares in the business, providing a financial incentive to employees and a chance for the firm to expand into new jurisdictions.
Furthermore, its highly successful Equity Compensations Solutions arm, which advises FTSE 100s on their employee share schemes, launched an office in Seattle.
