ITN appoints first head of compliance

ITN has hired John Battle as its first in-house head of compliance.

Battle joins from Associated Newspapers where he was group legal adviser. He will head ITN’s libel panel and will have primary responsibility for pre-publication advice and other compliance issues.

ITN’s director of business affairs and company secretary James Scorer says the appointment reflects the increase in the number of new media outlets that ITN supplies news to.

ITN used to instruct Biddle for much of its media work but relationship partner Duncan Lamont took ITN with him when he joined Charles Russell (The Lawyer, 5 February). Scorer says ITN will continue to instruct Charles Russell.

ITN has also appointed Kate Mayne as legal adviser from media specialist Harbottle & Lewis.
