Owain Jones, who is currently based in Abu Dhabi, will fly the nest when his three-year secondment to the Middle East comes to an end at the start of 2009.
Jones already has a private pilot's licence, but he will need to go back to school to be able to fly jumbo jets.
London-based head of aircraft finance and leasing Nick Chandler, who worked with Jones before he moved abroad, said: "It's something he's always wanted to do. He came to a crossroads and decided it's now or never. I'm really pleased for him."
Jones has specialised in aviation since qualification. According to the firm he has worked on a number of the largest export credit-backed aircraft deals over the past few years, including fleet renewals for Air Canada and LAN Chile.
