The US firm opened in Hong Kong last year and has agreed terms with a number of lateral hires to man the new Beijing office.
Dechert chairman Bart Winokur told The Lawyer: "If you want to do the things that we want to be doing then you have to be a global firm. The economics of the world are shifting. A lot of the money that used to go through London and New York is not going through those centres anymore."
Winokur said that he was studying the opportunities for a launch in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
"We're looking hard at Moscow. There's a lot of business and a lot of money but it's a very different system," said Winokur.
The Dechert chairman went on to talk about the importance of the Middle East and enthused about the volume of work coming out of the region.
