Nine-lawyer J&J, based in Taiwanese capital Taipei, has been added to the firm’s existing offices in Asia in the cities of Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
K&L Gates Asia managing partner David Tang said: “Their addition will allow us to capitalise on the corporate strengths of both groups in working with a number of corporations including our shared client Microsoft, and also offer our clients international intellectual property experience.”
J&J Attorneys practice expertise includes corporate, M&A, environmental law, project finance and IP.
The firm has advised clients including General Electric, General Motors and Mircrosoft.
J&J Attorneys managing partner Jacqueline Fu, said: “The joining of our firms broadens J&J’s services to clients through the expanded resources of K&L Gates, particularly through its offices in China and Hong Kong.”
Earlier this month The Lawyer reported on K&L Gates’ merger talks with US firm Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman (TheLawyer.com, 1 May).
If successful the merger will create a 1700-lawyer firm with 28 offices across the US, Europe and Asia.
