The Crown Prosecution Service, which this week was attacked for allowing people facing charges to go free because of errors. The CPS inspectorate found that in some cases the accused had to be released because lawyers had miscalculated how long they could be held, and that one in four charge sheets prepared by CPS lawyers contained mistakes.
